Artist's Comments

This picture was inspired by *kay-ness' photomanipulation tutorial. I wanted to try my hand at an 'overpaint' to see just how hard/easy it was. And I wanted to use the same stock as *kay-ness so that I could compare how differently the same stock/overpaint came out when done in two different styles.

I gotta say that it was really fun to do this! Took a couple of hours, and I played with Photoshop's liquify filter, and tried some new ways of blending, and some different brushes. So I learned something.

Please check out *kay-ness' tutorial here: [link]

Karyn, I'm absolutely loving how your version turned out! dig the textured brush background and colour, and most importantly, you have kept the model's original features(i think she's plenty attractive, I just went too wild on the overpaint and made her look like a generic ';pretty girl' :blushes:), plus, there's plenty of your own style put in. What's not to love? :D

Yeah, how cool is this!! It looks totally fresh and I can see your style shining through! FABOO!

The three-way comparison is very interesting. I really like the way you handled the skin and eyes.

:D Thanks, kay! It was really a great learning exercise. And it was fun. I really liked seeing how different both versions were. I debated pushing her features more than I did, but I just had fun with the liquify filter instead. It makes me want to play with more overpainting. And doing more elaborate photo-manipulations. Maybe I'll have to take some photos of my baby boy and turn him into a wild fae or something fun!

Thanks, Cris! It was fun and relaxing to play with overpainting. I replied to Kay and told her I thought I should experiment more with it. I think turning Billy into a wild woodsy fae would be fun!

Yeah, wasn't it interesting how the same stock ended up looking totally different depending on who painted it, their style, and choices? I think it would be cool if more people tried the same thing in their style so we could compare differences. Even though we started with the same thing, the result was totally different. Neither was a "Copy" per se. :)

Thanks!!! I'd like to try more overpaints like this. It was really fun. And with a baby sleeping near my computer, it was a great way to get art done in between naps... :)
