Artist's Comments

I was totally in the mood to do some Wonder Woman fan art, and here she is! More of a practice piece than anything else. Was experimenting with a combo of line art and more complex shading. Very definitely influenced by the amazing :iconadamhughes: .

This actually took me a couple days, so my idea that this technique might be a time saver didn't pan out as well as I'd hope.

I might try to do more DC ladies. (Please Full-View for a better look). Let me know if you want a closer look or anything.

Heeeelo! :)

I love your rendition of WW, first thing I thought when I saw this was Hughes, so mission accomplished. :aww:

My main issue here is with two things. Lineart is on point * I LOVE it* so no crit there, it's a very short crit actually.

1: The rendering of her skin: it isn't sharp enough. Hughes colors with a mouse so the places he defines are TOTALLY sharp, especially around the cleavage and clavicle areas. Right here it looks like you're not sure of the anatomy or where the muscles go, which shows a lot.

Secondly the colors you chose are very.. muddy. They won't print well or display well on the screen, plus the harmony here doesn't exist. I know you tried to make her part of the bg with the underlighting and accents you put in, but WHERE you put them in and what colors you selected doesn't flatter her at all. The shadows seem like you've used a brush on multiply mode to create them; they're awkwardly developed and placed *I had this same problem some time ago so I understand*.

In all, great work, just a bit of color tweaks and some more refining on both metal and the skin will make this one killer piece. Great work.

Before I disappear, I've done a paintover for you that explains a bit of what I mean >> [link]

Hope it helps!

Yay! I wanted to try this critique thing. So! Very cute, Karyn...different for you! Her skin tone might be a little too much like the background, kinda mottled and a little muddy. I love her nose, though. You give faces such a nice blush. Why'd you make the bracer silver? Is it that way, in the comic? Just wondering. Lovely lines in the hair. Her chest insignia might be a little odd, in that it doesn't follow the swell of the breasts, but that's a toughie. Overall, great experiment! I love Adam Hughes too; am watching him too. Paint on, lady! :XD:

Er... I suppose it's a backwards sort of compliment to say that when I saw this in my message center I thought it *was* an Adam Hughs painting, and deleted it (I follow him too, but don't always look closely at his stuff).

It wasn't till I saw Cris had critiqued it that I realized YOU'D done it. :D Wicked good, girl.

Still, I love your own style. Don't be trying too hard to change it to look like someone else's.

This is a really nice piece.love the way shes framed next to backdrop.Only thing im not keen on is the shading on the legs, was this the burn tool in photoshop?Id always go for painting the shadow as the burn looks a bit grubby(if this is what you did).Did you use a model, a trace, also a wacom tablet? All in all really impressive!I love it!!!
:iconadriana7:
I think her portrayal is perfect. She's beautiful (without being overly-sexed) while still looking strong, and will kick your butt whenever the time calls for it.

Great piece!

Thanks for the comments! :D

The whole picture was shaded in grayscale first, then color was added after. I did use the burn tool but only to re darken the lines. The legs were shaded with regular hard and soft brushes.

I based the pose off a photo, yup, but eyeballed it. No tracing. :D
